Day 1
Package Includes: Guided Tour of Roundhouse, Boxed Lunch, Ticket on East Broad Top Railroad, Admission to Rockhill Trolley Museum and Trolley Ride, Admission to Swigart Auto Museum and Transportation
Take a trip back in time with Wolf's! After a brief rest stop along the way we'll arrive at American's oldest operating narrow gauge railroad: The East Broad Top Railroad National Historic Site! Step into the roundhouse for a 45-minute guided tour to see where steam locomotives have been readied for service since 1873, and the machine shop, where the railroad engines, cars, and equipment have been maintained using machines powered by an overhead belt system. You'll quickly learn why the Smithsonian Institution has deemed the East Broad Top "an Incomparable national treasure." Afterward you'll enjoy a boxed lunch at the picnic grounds before boarding the EBT's 153-year-old rails and enjoy an hour round trip through the scenic Aughwick Valley in the Appalacian Mountains. The train departs from historic Orbisonia Station, where we'll follow the same route once used to transport millions of tons of coal from the mine to market. Upon return we'll step onto the neighboring Rockhill Museum. Have you ever ridden a real trolley car and heard the ting-ting of the trolley bell? Learn about the days of when many American towns and cities offered inexpensive and convenient transportation using the electric trolleys then board a century-old trolley car and take a trip past historic industrial ruins and steep mountain narrows alongside the picturesque Blacklog Creek and Narrows.
Once back on board our modern-day coach, its a short trip to the Swigart Auto Museum. The museum is the oldest automobile museum in the United States! Opt for a guided visit with the opportunity to listen & learn more from museum staff to explore on your own. Learn about the historical significance of the automobile, while viewing the many displays, and the one-of-a-kind automobiles. The automobile collection was started in 1920, just 25 years after the patented combustion engine automobile. The museum contains automobiles and carriages alike. Experience more than just cars - decanters, badges, license plates, vintage Fisher-Price toys, and more!!
Depart for home with sweet memories of travel from days gone by - we'll have a brief meal stop on the way home at your own expense.
