DAY 1
The mountains of Vermont are alive with the sounds of the holiday season and the magnificent beauty that one comes to expect from a visit to the Austrian-inspired von Trapp Family Lodge. This morning, you depart Central PA and make appropriate meal and rest stops along the way to Stowe, Vermont for an awe-inspiring getaway with stunning mountain views, old world charm and impeccable service. Upon arrival in Stowe, you check in at the von Trapp Family Lodge (800-826-7000) for an unforgettable three-night stay. The von Trapp Family Lodge amenities include an indoor swimming pool and sauna, a fitness center, on-site restaurant and cocktail lounge, daily afternoon tea and complimentary wireless internet access throughout the property. Guest rooms feature a coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron/ironing board and flat screen television. Dinner tonight is included in the Main Dining Room, with the remainder of the evening to enjoy the delightful surroundings and amenities at the Lodge.
DDAY 2
Wake to a hearty country breakfast buffet included this morning at the von Trapp Family Lodge. Afterwards, board the motorcoach for a visit to Cold Hollow Cider Mill. This working cider mill offers a wonderful taste of Vermont's rural charm. Learn how apples, bees, maple trees, and Vermont all come together, enjoy a delicious cider donut with a cup of hot cider, and browse the gift shop for local treats to take home. Next, travel to the charming Stowe Village, where you will have time to explore the quaint shops, enjoy lunch on your own, and take in the picturesque New England scenery. You may even want to snap a photo of the village's famous church steeple! Afterwards, return to the von Trapp Family Lodge for an educational and entertaining von Trapp history talk beginning with an overview of the family history, actual vs. movie version, a discussion of the property's history and the family's early years in America. A documentary film, The Real Maria, enlightens viewers about Maria von Trapp's memories during her final visit to her former home in Salzburg, Austria. Afterwards, browse their Austrian gift shop and possibly have one of your purchased souvenirs signed by one of the von Trapp family members to keep as a special memento of your stay at the Lodge. Next, you return to the von Trapp Family Lodge to enjoy the casual Afternoon Tea with your fellow passengers and other von Trapp Lodge guests. Dinner is included at the lodge followed by the remainder of the evening to relax, unwind within the warmth and beauty of the Austrian-inspired architecture.
B, DDAY 3
Begin your morning with a hearty country breakfast buffet at the von Trapp Family Lodge before departing for the Cabot Cheese Annex. Browse the fantastic selection of Cabot products, sample their award-winning cheeses, and shop for Vermont specialty foods. You will also have time to explore the neighboring shops, including Lake Champlain Chocolates, Danforth Pewter, and the Smugglers' Notch Distillery tasting room. It is a wonderful opportunity to pick up a few unique gifts to take home! Next, travel to Montpelier, Vermont's charming capital city, for a guided tour of the Vermont State House. One of the oldest and best-preserved state capitols in the nation, it features historic legislative chambers, beautiful architecture, and impressive works of art throughout the building. Following your tour, enjoy lunch on your own and at your expense at the State House Café. After lunch, continue to Morse Maple Sugar Farm to discover Vermont's maple sugaring traditions. Learn about the process of turning tree sap into delicious maple syrup as you explore the sugarhouse and enjoy samples of syrup, jams, and jellies. Visit the Vermont Farm Life Museum, stroll along the nature trail, and browse the gift shop for local treats and handcrafted souvenirs. Following your visit, return to the von Trapp Family Lodge to enjoy the casual Afternoon Tea. Later, take a short ride to the Lodge's new "Bierhall", where dinner is included overlooking the brewery that produces a variety of von Trapp Family craft beers. Enjoy the evening surrounded by the Lodge's distinctive Austrian-inspired atmosphere.
B, DDAY 4
A hearty breakfast buffet is included before you check out and begin your journey homeward with joyous memories of your stay at the Von Trapp Lodge and visit to the picturesque mountains of Vermont.
