Day 1
Package Includes: Admission to the NEW The People's House - A White House Experience, Lunch, and Arlington National Cemetery with Tram Tickets, Changing of the Guard, Visit Arlington House and Transportation
Hop aboard as we head out for a White House Experience aboard the friendly Wolf! As we make our way to the Pennsylvania Avenue our first stop will be at the NEW The Peoples House for a White House experience at the cutting-edge educational museum located in DC, just one block from the White House. The museum tells the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions. After our museum tour we'll depart for a 12:30 lunch at a local restaurant. Enjoy time for a lunch while resting up for the next leg of our trip.
Arrival at the Arlington National Cemetery will bring us a step on-guide to share the sacred square mile of this renowned resting place for many of Americas greatest contributors from the resting place of President John F. Kennedy, members of the Kennedy family, Audie Murphy, prizefighter Joe Louise, and thousands of soldiers from every major U.S. war. The Cemetery is the former plantation and home of Civil War General Robert E. Lee. While here we will utilize the cemetery tram system where we will be able to navigate the 612 acres and see six stops: President Kennedy's gravesite, U.S. Coast Guard Memorial, U.S. Army Gen. John J. Pershing's gravesite, the Tomb of the Unknowns. We'll also have the opportunity to see the change of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier; this happens hourly and is an elaborate ceremony that you won't want to miss. The tomb of the Unknown Soldiers from WWI, WWII & the Korean War (a plaque is in place for the Vietnam War though there are no longer any unidentified remains) are interred here and are guarded by members of the Army's Third Regiment, also known as the Old Guard. These sentries stand guard 24 hours a day as a sign of respect for their ultimate sacrifice.
Next, we'll have the opportunity to visit the Arlington House, constructed between 1802 and 1818, the nation's first memorial to George Washington, a Greek Revival system mansion was the former home of Robert E. Lee, is now maintained by the National Park Service. The house honors Lee for his role in promoting peace and reunion after the Civil War.
We'll bid a fond farewell to our guide before we head for home with a meal stop on the way home at your expense.
