Valid Passport or Passport Card is REQUIRED - Passports or Passport Cards must be valid for six (6) months after the RETURN date of any tour requiring a Passport or Passport Card for travel. DAY 1
Today, you depart for Alexandria Bay, New York located in the glorious 1000 Islands region with meal and rest stops enroute. Upon arrival, (time permitting) you check in to the Riveredge Resort (315-482-9917). This waterfront hotel offers an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness center, outdoor pool (weather permitting). In-room amenities include a coffee maker, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. Then, board the shuttle boat to Heart Island to visit Boldt Castle. While on the 5-acre island enjoy the 129-room Boldt Castle built by George Boldt for his wife Louise. Admission also includes the outbuildings and lovely landscaped grounds. There are restrooms, a snack bar and gift shop on the island. There is a short film about the castle on the ground floor, as well as knowledgeable guides located throughout the castle and in the Powerhouse and to answer questions. Boats leave every half hour to return to Alexandria Bay. Dinner is on your own this evening with the remainder of the night to enjoy the hotel amenities.
DAY 2
Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning before check-out and departure for Quebec City. Make sure that you have your valid Passport or Passport Card with you to cross the Canadian border. A lunch stop at your expense will be made enroute to Quebec City. Upon arrival, you check in at the Hotel Palace Royal (418-694-2000). This beautiful hotel is located in downtown Quebec City and features an indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, in-room microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. Dinner is included at the hotel. The remainder of the evening is yours to explore downtown Quebec City on your own or relax at the hotel.
B, DDAY 3
A full breakfast is included at the hotel before departing for a guided tour of Quebec City with views of the Plains of Abraham, the site of a confrontation between the French and British Empires (1759-1760) and later transformed into a park in 1908; drive by the Citadelle of Quebec, an active military installation and the secondary official residence of both the Monarch of Canada and the Governor General of Canada and is located atop Cap Diamant (Cape Diamond) adjoining the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City; also see the narrowest street in North America. Next, lunch is on your own and at your expense. This afternoon, you discover Quebec City with a 90-minute sightseeing cruise on the St. Lawrence River. Highlights of your cruise include views of Montmorency Falls and Ile d'Orleans, as well as the breathtaking Chateau Frontenac designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make sure to have your camera ready to capture photographic memories of some of the most picturesque scenery along the waterfront. Once back at the dock, you board the motorcoach and return to the hotel for an evening of leisure to explore Quebec City and have dinner on your own and your expense.
BDAY 4
Wake to breakfast included at your leisure and a day to explore Old Quebec on your own. Bask in the European charm of this awe-inspiring city designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, Old Quebec is the most intact fortified town north of Mexico, retaining its colonial architecture for over 400 years. It is the historic and cultural heart of Quebec City, and the birthplace of French North America. Lunch and dinner will be on your own today and at your expense. Old Quebec is filled with historic and architectural treasures, boutique and antique shops, and fabulous little cafes and restaurants for you to explore as much or as little as you like today at your leisure.
BDAY 5
Following a full breakfast included at the hotel, you pack up and depart for one last tour stop in Montreal where admission is included for a self-guided tour of the Notre-Dame Basilica built between 1824-1829. Witness the impressive, vaulted ceiling, become amazed by the stunning stained-glass windows, view the paintings, sculptures, intricate gilded ornamentation and the 7,000-pipe organ. After your visit, you depart for Alexandria Bay, NY with lunch on your own and at your expense along the way. Be sure to have your Passport/Passport Card ready to present at the border to re-enter the U.S. Upon arrival in Alexandria Bay, you check in at the Riveredge Resort (315-482-9917) for your final night's stay. Dinner is included at a local restaurant followed by return to the hotel for the night.
B, DDAY 6
Breakfast is included at the hotel prior to check-out and departure for a narrated cruise to Dark Island to tour Singer Castle. Upon arrival you are greeted by trained guides for a 1-hour walking tour to educate you about the unique history of the "hunting lodge" of the fifth President of the Singer Sewing Machine Company, Frederick Bourne. (Please Note: Singer Castle is not Handicap Accessible, no walkers are permitted. Walking and climbing stairs are required to view the interior of the castle. There is a steep walkway on a paved path from the dock to castle. Individuals with mobility issues can watch a video of Singer Castle. Comfortable footwear is suggested for the 1-mile walking tour). See furnishings and artifacts original to the castle and the puzzling secret passages of this magnificent over 100-year-old structure. Bourne wanted to surprise his wife Emma and their children with an island hunting retreat. He purchased Dark Island in 1902 and had designed and built the 4-story, 28-room castle, complete with 4-story tower, and elaborate boat house, a 2-story ice house essential for fine entertaining and more, originally known as "The Towers". Singer Castle is the only remaining/existing castle on the St. Lawrence Seaway to be completed, fully furnished and resided in during the heyday of the great builders and industrialists in New York. A boxed lunch is included today. Once back in Alexandria Bay, you board the motorcoach for home with meal and rest stops at your expense along the way.
