History, Horses & Lighthouses of OBX 2025

DAY 1

Spring has sprung so it's time for some fun in the Outer Banks. During your travels to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, you will make appropriate meal and rest stops along the way at your expense. Upon arrival in Kitty Hawk, NC, you have dinner included at a local restaurant. Entrée choices include Southern Fried Flounder, 12oz Prime Rib, Seafood Pasta or Chicken Caesar Salad. If you have not already made a selection, please contact our office at least 1 month prior to the departure date. Following dinner, you depart for check in at your host hotel for the next 3 nights, the Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk (252-261-1290). Guest room amenities include a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel features a heated indoor and outdoor seasonal pool, fitness center, business center with complimentary Wi-Fi and an onsite restaurant. Relax and unwind the remainder of the night.

DAY 2

Wake to breakfast this morning at the hotel with a leisurely morning and afternoon to enjoy the beach and the hotel amenities. Lunch is on your own and at your expense today. Late afternoon, gather with your fellow passengers to board the motorcoach and travel to the Wright Brothers National Memorial for a self-guided visit. Few things have had a greater impact on the course of human history than the development of air travel. Our world got considerably smaller since Orville and Wilbur Wright first set foot upon Big Kill Devil Hill with the intention of making mankind's most enduring shared dream of flight possible. Wright Brothers National Memorial celebrates the journey of invention and discovery taken on the outskirts of Kitty Hawk in 1903. At the end of your visit, you board the motorcoach and travel to Bodie Lighthouse for a photo stop. Built in 1872, the Bodie Island Lighthouse that you see today is the third in a line of structures constructed to protect the coastline and passing vessels from destruction. At its completion, the Bodie was nearly doubled in size from its two preceding structures, a lighthouse keeper's duplex was constructed, and the lighthouse became a beacon to passing ships with a First Order Fresnel Lens. The lighthouse still operates today. Next, dinner is included at an area restaurant with the following meal choices as follows: 1st Course - Classic Tossed Salad or Wanchese Clam Cowder, 2nd Course - Baked Parmesan Encrusted Chicken Breast, Shrimp & Scallop Pasta, Broiled or Fried Combo (Shrimp, Scallops and Catch of the Day), 3rd Course Key Lime Pie or Hershey Bar Squares. If you have not already made your selections, please contact the office at least 1 month prior to the departure date. Following dinner, you return to the hotel to turn in for the night.

DAY 3

Breakfast is included this morning before you board the motorcoach for your Wild Horse Adventure Tour. Feel the ocean breeze and smell the salty beach air as you cruise the beach in a 4x4 open-air vehicle with a seasoned guide in search of the Colonial Spanish Mustangs. View the horses in their natural environment as you venture through ecosystems teeming with wildlife accessible only by off-road vehicles. Your guide will entertain and educate you with stories of legends, local lore, and ecology. Afterwards, you depart for some free time for lunch on your own and at your expense in Timbuck II. Next, you depart for a tour of The Whalehead Club, a beautifully restored 1920's-era Art Nouveau-style mansion; with its bold yellow paint, copper roof and mahogany doors. Whalehead serves as a Northern Outer Banks icon, and a living testament to Corolla and Duck's heyday as a secluded oceanfront retreat for the country's wealthy hunters and conservationists. Following your visit, you depart for a photo stop at Currituck Beach Lighthouse. First lit in 1875, the lighthouse stands 158-feet high and to distinguish this structure from other regional lighthouses, the exterior was left unpainted so that visitors can get a sense of the multitude of bricks used for its construction. Currituck Beach Lighthouse is known as a first order lighthouse, which means it has the largest of seven Fresnel lens sizes. Even today, the Currituck serves as an aid to navigation as its beacon comes on automatically at dusk and ceases at dawn. Your evening concludes with dinner at a local restaurant before you return to the hotel for the remainder of the night.

DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast included at the hotel before you pack up and begin your journey home, but not before one last "Nutty" stop at the Virginia Diner, an iconic Virginia diner known for its home-cooked meals and World-Famous Peanuts as seen on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". Enjoy time to browse the store before you sit down for an included lunch. Afterwards, you board the motorcoach for return home with appropriate meal and/or rest stops at your expense.
