DAY 1
A short stop will be made this morning on your way to Cape May, New Jersey. Upon arrival in Cape May, enjoy free time in the city's historic square, Washington Street Mall, to browse the quaint shops and have lunch on your own in one of the sidewalk cafes. Mid-afternoon you will check in to your oceanfront hotel the Marquis de Lafayette (609-884-3500). Hotel amenities include a heated pool and sauna, on-site restaurant and pub, and rocking chairs for a relaxing view of the ocean. Guest rooms feature a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. After time to freshen up, you board an old-fashioned trolley for a narrated tour of the Cape May historic district, possessing one of the country's largest collections of 19th century seaside wood framed buildings. Settled by whalers and fishermen in colonial times, learn how Cape May nearly burnt to the ground in 1878, but reconstruction efforts brought back this charming seaside resort dotted with majestic Victorian era buildings that still today continues to be the oldest of its kind in the country. Following your educational and entertaining tour, you have dinner included at a local restaurant. Afterwards, you return to the hotel for the remainder of the night.
DDAY 2
Your day begins with breakfast included at the hotel. After checking out of the hotel, experience Cape May in a whole new way with a narrated sightseeing cruise. Your vessel cruises around Cape May Point with spectacular views of Cape May Point Lighthouse and possibly even a glimpse of a dolphin. Following your cruise, you depart for home with a stop in Historic Smithville and The Village Greene for lunch on your own and free time to browse the shops on the water's edge. Stroll along the cobblestone paths where you may choose to dine at one of the open-air cafes and browse through more than 40 unique galleries and boutiques. Afterwards, you will return home with a dinner stop at your expense enroute.
