Day 1
Hop aboard as we head out for a White House Experience aboard the friendly Wolf! Our first stop will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, where a step-on guide will share the sacred history of this renowned resting place. The cemetery is the former plantation and home of Civil War General Robert E. Lee. It is the final resting place for many of America's greatest contributors, including President John F. Kennedy, members of the Kennedy family, Audie Murphy, prizefighter Joe Louis, and thousands of soldiers from every major U.S. war. (It is recommended that visitors bring minimal to no bags or bulky items. Visitors will be directed to remove phones, hats and pocket items to place above their heads when walking through security screening.)
While at the cemetery, we will utilize the tram system to navigate the 612 acres and visit six stops, including President Kennedy's gravesite, the U.S. Coast Guard Memorial, U.S. Army Gen. John J. Pershing's gravesite, and the Tomb of the Unknowns. You won't want to miss the hourly Change of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tomb holds the remains of unknown soldiers from WWI, WWII, and the Korean War (a plaque is in place for the Vietnam War, though there are no longer any unidentified remains). These sentries, members of the Army's Third Regiment (also known as the Old Guard), stand guard 24 hours a day as a sign of respect for the ultimate sacrifice. Subject to availability, we will also have the opportunity to visit the Arlington House (Subject to availability), a Greek Revival-style mansion built between 1802 and 1818. This former home of Robert E. Lee, now maintained by the National Park Service, serves as the nation's first memorial to George Washington and honors Lee for his role in promoting peace and reunion after the Civil War.
Next, we'll depart for a 12:30 lunch at a local restaurant - Tony & Joe's. Enjoy time for lunch while resting up for the next leg of our trip.
After lunch, we will head to The People's House for a White House experience at this new, cutting-edge educational museum located in DC, just one block from the White House. (All visitors will go through a mandatory security screening upon entry to the People's House. Weapons of any kind are NOT permitted in the experience. Visitors are NOT permitted to possess tobacco products, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes and vapes.) The museum tells the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants, and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions.
Following our museum tour, we will head to Pennsylvania Avenue for a photo opportunity at the White House before departing DC.
A dinner stop at your own expense will be made on the way home.
