DAY 1
Experience the best of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, starting at the historic Lancaster Central Market, one of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the country. With over 65 local vendors, this vibrant hub offers an array of farm-fresh produce, artisan cheeses, freshly baked goods, global flavors, and unique local treasures. It is far more than just a shopping stop; it is a full sensory experience and a true taste of Lancaster's heart. Be sure to bring a cooler along so you can easily take home some of these delicious local delicacies.
Next, you will depart for Lantz Farm, where you will be welcomed into the home of Anna and Josiah not as tourists, but as family guests. Take a tour of the home with Anna, explore the surrounding farm alongside Josiah, and enjoy a relaxed, light picnic lunch on the property for an authentic, inside look at Amish life. After lunch, Josiah will join your group for a guided bus tour, sharing deeply personal stories of faith, family, and what it was like growing up in the Amish community. Along the route, you will visit three unique Amish-owned businesses: a working flower farm, a handcrafted toy shop, and a distinct gourd farm. This journey goes beyond simple sightseeing, offering a meaningful window into daily life, challenges, and enduring traditions of the culture.
Upon returning to the farm, you will have plenty of time to unwind and connect with your hosts. You can paint your own keepsake gourd, chat with Anna, play with the children, help churn homemade ice cream, or simply relax on the porch. As evening approaches, feel free to pitch in around the kitchen, set the table, and share stories before sitting down to a delicious, traditional home-cooked meal. After sharing this warm dining experience - where it is not uncommon for the children to climb right into your lap -you will board the bus and head home, carrying unforgettable memories of Lancaster.
