Washington DC Smithsonian Or Zoo On Your Own

DAY 1

Today your experience in our Nation's Capital, Washington, DC, is up to you. You have the choice to visit the Washington, DC National Zoo which houses 2,100 individual animals of nearly 400 different species. The National Zoo covers 163 acres, and it is home to the furry and feathery, sleek and slithery, and the zoo is a great way to learn about our environment and its interesting inhabitants. The Zoo offers a variety of dining and shopping options located throughout the park. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and snacks into the zoo.

Our Nation's Capital, Washington, DC, is where visitors come to remember and where history is made. The Smithsonian museums house a wealth of historical facts, artifacts and interesting stories about famous people. Take time to visit the Museum of Natural History, Museum of American History, National Air & Space Museum, the Holocaust Museum or any one of the other museums to explore and learn at your leisure. When planning your day, be sure to visit the website for the museum(s) you plan to visit to see whether a ticket is required for admission.

Whether you choose to spend the day at the Washington, DC National Zoo or touring the Smithsonian museums, the day is yours to do as you please. Upon arrival in Washington, DC at approximately 10:30 a.m., your first stop will be for those who choose to spend their day at the National Zoo. Your second stop will be for those who would like to spend the day at the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall. You are asked to have lunch and dinner on your own while in DC. Departure from the Smithsonian/National Mall area will be 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from the National Zoo.
