DAY 1
Immerse yourself in the history, beauty and filming sites from Forrest Gump in Beaufort, South Carolina which was a central filming location for the movie. Following meal and rest stop at your expense along the way, you arrive in Charlotte, NC for an overnight stay at the Drury Inn & Suites Charlotte Northlake (704-599-8882). Guest rooms feature a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffeemaker, hairdryer and complimentary Wi-Fi. Hotel amenities include an indoor/outdoor pool & whirlpool, fitness center and business center. Dinner this evening is on your own with the remainder of the night to enjoy the hotel amenities.
DAY 2
Enjoy breakfast included at the hotel before you depart for Beaufort, SC where upon arrival you have some time for lunch on your own and at your expense. You then board the motorcoach with your local guide for a Forrest Gump Tour featuring a drive by Bubba's Mother's House, see a Shrimp Boat Scene at Lucy Point, visit Basil Green Sports Complex staged to look like Alabama football stadium, drive by USC Performing Arts Center exterior used as Bayou Le Batre Hospital, and Woods Memorial Bridge that Forrest crossed during his cross country run. Following your all things Gump driving tour, you depart for Beaufort, SC where you check in at the Best Western Sea Island Inn (843-522-2090) for a three-night stay. Located in the Beaufort Historic District, the hotel offers guests an outdoor pool (seasonal), business center, complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour complimentary cookies and coffee in the lobby. Guestroom amenities include a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, hairdryer, flat screen with premium channels and iron/ironing board. B, DDAY 3
Begin your day with breakfast included at the hotel before you depart for a day of touring in Savannah, GA. Your first stop is at the Savannah Visitor Center where you can view a film on Historic Savannah and stroll through the Savannah History Museum which houses the original Forrest Gump bus bench. Upon arrival in downtown Savannah, board your Old Savannah Tours Trolley and take a private overview tour of Historic Savannah. The trolley conductor will point out Forrest Gump sites, as well as provide narration about Savannah's fascinating history and identify magnificent architecture as you ride through the streets of Georgia's first city. Next, enjoy lunch on your own and at your expense along the Riverwalk. Then, admission for a guided walking tour of Wormsloe Plantation and self-guided exploration of the museum is included (Reminder: Please wear comfortable walking shoes). See the amazing 1.5 mile promenade of southern live oak trees which was the scene in the movie of Forrest running to the plantation house. Learn how colonial Wormsloe contributed to Georgia history as you walk from the Visitor Center to Savannah's oldest tabby ruins, as well as the history behind the famous Live Oak Avenue and grave site. Afterwards, you board the motorcoach for transport to dinner at a local restaurant. After a long day of touring, you return to the hotel to turn in for the night.
B, DDAY 4
Enjoy a delightful breakfast before you walk 2 blocks to the Beaufort Marina for a Dolphin and History Boat Cruise. Your captain will share with you a deeper understanding of Beaufort's layered history and local tales, as you cruise the waters where you may see playful bottlenose dolphins, nesting bald eagles and ospreys on the hunt (sightings are not guaranteed). Afterwards, a traditional Southern Cultural lunch is included before you visit Ft. Freemont, a former military installation. The fort and battery are historically significant as an example of late 19th and early 20th century military architecture and as one of the two surviving coastal fortifications in the Unites States intact from the Spanish-American War era. Next, stop at Gay Fish Co, Inc, rumored to be favorite stop of Tom Hanks and the location of several iconic shrimp boats. The owners provided the shrimp used in the shrimp boat scenes and their shrimp boat, "Miss Hilda" can be seen in the film when Forrest is naming his boat "Jenny." Your day continues with a visit to Hunting Island, which is the location where the war scenes were shot when Forrest was rescuing wounded soldiers. Enjoy a walking tour of this beautiful natural area featuring beaches, marshes, forests and a historic lighthouse. Early evening, dinner is included at a local restaurant before you return to the hotel for the rest of the night. A special treat to commemorate your Forrest Gump adventures will be waiting for you, a Farewell Box of Chocolates from The Chocolate Tree.
B, L, DDAY 5
Breakfast is included at the hotel before you check out and take a short walk to board a horse-drawn carriage for a fascinating and delightful narrated tour of Beaufort. Experience Beaufort's rich history and unique charm as your horse-drawn carriage meanders under the moss-covered Live Oaks, past breathtaking Antebellum homes, historic churches, movie sites and more. You will have free time for lunch on your own and at your expense while in downtown Beaufort. Mid-afternoon, you have admission included to visit Mcleod Plantation Historic Site, an important 37-acre Gullah/Geechee heritage site that has been carefully preserved in recognition of its cultural and historical significance. McLeod was built by the riches of sea island cotton, and on the backs of enslaved people whose work and culture are embedded in the Lowcountry's very foundation. It is a living tribute to the men and women and their descendants that persevered in their efforts to achieve freedom, equality and justice. (Make sure to wear comfortable shoes to take a guided walking tour of the historic site). You then board the motorcoach and depart for Florence, SC where upon arrival you have dinner included and followed by check-in at the Homewood Suites Florence ( 843-407-1600) for your final overnight stay. Settle in to your guest room for the night featuring a microwave, coffeemaker, hairdryer and complimentary Wi-Fi.
B, DDAY 6
Your day begins with breakfast included at the hotel before you check-out and board the motorcoach for return home with fond memories of your time traveling through the world of Forrest Gump and the history and charm of the south. Meal and rest stops at your expense will be made along the way home.
