The hotel features a year-round heated outdoor pool, guest coin-operated laundry and high-speed wireless internet throughout the property. Guest rooms offer a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffee/tea maker and hairdryer. DDAY 2
Following breakfast included at the hotel, you check out and continue your travels north to West Gardiner, ME to visit The Center for Maine Craft, a retail store and gallery selling and exhibiting the work of over 300 Maine craft artists. Find one-of-a-kind original artwork, handcrafted furniture and short-term or limited edition works. Next, it is time for lunch on your own at Dysart's Restaurant where the menu features homemade dishes that are distinctive to Maine. Mid-afternoon you hit the road again enroute to Calais, Maine, where you need to have proper identification (Passport or Passport card) to cross the border into the Province of New Brunswick, and at which time you turn your watches ahead one hour. Tonight, you stay at the Delta Hotels Saint John (506-648-1981) which offers its guests an indoor pool and fitness center, on-site cocktail lounge and complimentary Wi-Fi. In-room amenities include a flat-screen tv, hairdryer and complimentary internet access. Dinner this evening is on your own with the remainder of the evening to relax and unwind.
BDAY 3
Breakfast is included at the hotel prior to checking out. Your first stop of the day will be at Fundy National Park, which was established in 1948 in an attempt to rescue its ailing ecosystem. Although Fundy is small in scale to most other national parks, it is unique in that it features scenic coastal waters with its world-famous giant tides and its interior backcountry of Acadian forests. The landscape originated in undersea volcanic activity, which accounts for its mineral rich soils. You will also visit the Hopewell Rocks, where you may have the opportunity to walk on the ocean floor if the tide is low. See where the world's highest tides have gouged four-story sculptures from the cliffs. At low tide, the rock formations look like giant flowerpots, while at high tide they practically disappear. Next, you will cross Confederation Bridge, the world's longest bridge over ice-covered saltwater connecting the mainland with Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. This evening, a lobster-choice dinner is included, with an alternate choice also offered. If you still have room, treat yourself to a dazzling array of scrumptious sweets. After dinner, you check in for a two-night stay at the Rodd Royalty (902-894-8566). Guest rooms feature a mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer and complimentary internet access. You may enjoy their indoor pool and fitness center during your free time.
B, DDAY 4
Following breakfast included at the hotel, you visit Green Gables, which has become famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic tale of fiction, Anne of Green Gables. In real life, this farm was the home of cousins of Montgomery's grandfather. Next, you are off to Prince Edward Island National Park, renowned for its red sandstone cliffs, fine white sandy beaches and dunes, and lush green fields. The park's theme - "sea, people and the changing landscape" - represents the island's heritage dating from the earliest native people to the European settlers who followed. Coastal erosion has continued to be a problem for the habitat of shorebirds that make PEI their home. Afterwards, you will take a city tour of Charlottetown. In 1864 Charlottetown was the unlikely birthplace of Canada, but it has proven that great things can come of humble beginnings. Much of Charlottetown's heritage and charm of the past still remains as seen in its beautiful waterfront and historic buildings. You then return to the hotel to have dinner on your own and enjoy the remainder of the evening on your own.
BDAY 5
This morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you check out and depart for a 75-minute ferry ride to Nova Scotia. Once the ferry has landed, you travel to Cape Breton Island to learn more about its most famous resident, Alexander Graham Bell. Bell once said, "I have traveled around the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes, the Alps and the Highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." Admission is included to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum located on the shores of Lake Bras d'Or commemorating the life and work of the inventor of the telephone along with a slew of other inventions. Discover about Bell's man-carrying kites, a record-breaking hydrofoil and how he taught deaf people to communicate through many educational and hands-on exhibits. You then proceed to the Silver Dart Lodge (902-295-2340) to check in for a two-night stay. Silver Dart Lodge is located in beautiful Baddeck on Cape Breton Island and overlooks the Bras d'Or Lakes. The hotel offers a fitness center, heated outdoor pool, private beach, gift shop, and a lakeside gazebo and each room is equipped with air conditioning, cable TV, coffee maker, and hair dryer. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant.
B, DDAY 6
Following breakfast included at the hotel, you depart for an island tour. Discover first-hand why Cape Breton was rated one of the top ten most beautiful islands by Conde Nast magazine readers. Your tour includes a visit to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, home of the Cabot Trail, which is named for the explorer John Cabot. The trail winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton's northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of the park. Scenic overlooks offer unforgettable views of the Cape's rugged coastline, so be sure to have your camera ready. You will have a box lunch included while on your tour. In addition, you make a stop at Cheticamp, a busy fishing village renowned for its Acadian culture and "rug-hooking." Following your day's touring, you return to the hotel for dinner included as well as free time to enjoy the amenities.
B, BL, DDAY 7
Enjoy breakfast included at the hotel before you check out and depart Cape Breton by way of the Canso Causeway to mainland Nova Scotia and journey to its capital city Halifax. Upon arrival, enjoy a tour of the historic port city featuring sites significant to its early beginnings as a colonial fort and continuing to its present role as an international meeting site and the economic center for the Atlantic Provinces. Hear stories about Halifax during the war years, including the Halifax Explosion and the city's role in the recovery operations after the Titanic disaster. In addition to the waterfront and historic downtown, see St. Paul's Church, Citadel Hill and the Victorian Public Gardens. Included in your day's touring is admission to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The museum is the largest site in Nova Scotia that collects and interprets various elements of maritime history, as well as being a valuable historical, cultural, and educational institution. Immerse yourself in Nova Scotia's rich maritime heritage with exhibits relating to the age of steamships, the Battle of the Atlantic, the Royal Canadian and Merchant Navies, and Nova Scotia's role in the aftermath of the Titanic disaster. Take a seat in a replica Titanic deck chair and view artifacts from the Titanic. Afterwards, you continue to the Hotel Halifax (902-425-6700) for a two-night stay. Guest rooms feature a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, cable/satellite television, hair dryer and complimentary high-speed internet access. The hotel offers an indoor heated pool, modern fitness center and onsite restaurant and lounge. Dinner is included at a local restaurant with the remainder of the evening to relax harbor side or enjoy the hotel amenities.
B, DDAY 8
This morning you travel to one of the most picturesque fishing villages along the Eastern seaboard, Peggy's Cove. Enjoy breakfast while you gaze at the crashing surf and the lighthouse perched on top of wave-washed rocks. Carved by glacial strength, Peggy's Cove is an intricate masterpiece full of natural beauty and pristine beaches tucked away in scenic inlets and harbors. Your next stop will be at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lunenburg. Established in 1753, Old Town Lunenburg is the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. The town has undergone no significant changes since its foundation and continues to fulfill its economic purpose as an offshore Atlantic fishery. While in Lunenburg, you have the choice to tour the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic offering the ultimate waterfront experience with thrilling activities, a fascinating aquarium, a fishing schooner and trawler, boats, films and exhibits (activities may vary by the day and time of visit); OR enjoy a narrated walking tour of Old Town Lunenburg with intriguing stories and tales of a fishing town. After your choice of experience, you return to the hotel for dinner on your own with the rest of the night to explore downtown Halifax at your leisure.
BDAY 9
Following breakfast included at the hotel, you check out and journey cross country through Nova Scotia's beautiful Annapolis Valley on the Bay of Fundy side of the province with your first stop being at the Grand Pre´ National Historic Site situated in an area that was the epicenter of Acadian activity from 1682 to 1755. Grand Pre´ commemorates the period of colonization and settlement of the area by the Acadians as well as their Deportation in 1755. In addition to the graceful stone church and the Interpretive Center, the site also features a statue of "Evangeline," the heroine of Longfellow's epic poem that details the experiences of a young Acadian woman who devotes her entire life to finding the man she loves from whom she was separated at the time of deportation. Next, depart from the Grand Pre´ enroute to the town of Digby for lunch included at the Digby Pines Resort. The town of Digby has been an active fishing community throughout the years and its location on the shores of the Annapolis Bay offers clear, crisp air and spectacular views of the harbor. After lunch, you board the ferry enroute to Saint John, New Brunswick, where you spend your final night in Canada at the Delta Hotels Saint Johns, the same hotel you stayed at on Day 2. Dinner is on your own this evening.
