DAY 2

Wake to a deluxe continental breakfast included at the hotel before you depart for a day of sightseeing with the first stop being at Jockey's Ridge State Park to witness the tallest active sand dune system in the United States. The park covers about 426 acres and scientists once estimated that there is about 30 million tons of sand within the dune system that protects inland areas acting as a resilient barrier to destructive forces of wind and waves. Next, it's off to the Wright Brothers National Memorial. It was at Kitty Hawk that self-taught engineers Wilbur and Orville Wright combined the wind, sand and a dream of flight to teach the world to fly. After four years of scientific experimentation, they achieved the first successful airplane flight on December 17, 1903. Afterwards, you have a little time to browse the shops of downtown Manteo and have lunch on your own. Then, you continue to Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. The site protects and preserves known portions of England's first New World settlement from 1584 to 1590, and preserves the cultural heritage of Native Americans, European Americans and African Americans who have lived on Roanoke Island. One of the early radio pioneers, Reginald Fessenden, conducted many of his experiments here. Your next stop is to view the Bodie Lighthouse. Built in 1872, the Bodie Island Lighthouse that you see today is the third in a line of structures constructed to protect the coastline and passing vessels from destruction. At its completion, the Bodie was nearly doubled in size from its two preceding structures, a lighthouse keeper's duplex was constructed, and the lighthouse became a beacon to passing ships with a First Order Fresnel Lens. The day concludes with dinner included at a local favorite with the following entrée choices: Parmesan Encrusted Chicken Breast, Local Green Tailed Shrimp - broiled fried or buffalo, or Shrimp & Grits. Dessert choices are Key Lime Pie or Hershey Bar Cake. (If you have not already made your selections, please contact our office to indicate your choices.) Following dinner, you return to the hotel for the night.

DAY 3

Once again, breakfast is included at the hotel before you check out and depart to experience the history and natural environment of the northern Outer Banks on a wild adventure. Travel on safari-style, off-road vehicles through the beaches and secluded wildlife areas to observe the native habitat, including the area's famous wild horses whose blood lines go back to the Colonial Spanish Mustangs. Picturesque scenery and unscheduled appearances of wildlife offer many photo opportunities during this unique and memorable experience. Next, you travel to Timbuck II Village for lunch on your own and at your expense. Afterwards, you depart for Norfolk, Virginia to check in to your host hotel for one night, the DoubleTree Norfolk Airport (757-466-8000). The DoubleTree offers guests the modern conveniences of home including a mini refrigerator, coffee maker with supplies, hair dryer, flat screen television, iron/ironing board and complimentary high-speed internet access. Hotel amenities include an indoor pool, 24-hour fitness center and complimentary WiFi. You are then whisked away to have dinner included at a local restaurant. Following dinner, you will continue to downtown Norfolk to experience an evening of military pageantry at the Virginia International Tattoo at the Scope Arena. Witness Hullabaloo with up-close-and personal performances by international military bands, dancers, drill teams, drum lines and pipers as they take to streets outside the Scope to provide visitors with a glance at what is about to take place inside the arena. Once inside, enjoy premium seating for a performance that will capture the imagination and ignite the soul with the largest spectacle of Music and Might in the United States with an astounding display of inspirational military music, majestic, massed pipes and drums, show stopping drill team maneuvers, colorful and elegant dances all in one performance at the Virginia International Tattoo. Witness all five branches of our military perform with precision and pageantry, along with an extraordinary cast of hundreds of performers from around the world. After the show, you return to the hotel for the night.

DAY 4

Following breakfast included at the hotel, you check out and travel a short distance up the road to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Dating back to 1938, the gardens feature 175-acres of colorful landscapes, unusual flowers, mature forests and seasonal plantings. The Garden is also home to 52 distinct themed gardens, 95 species of birds and 30 kinds of butterflies. Tranquility and stunning beauty highlight this visit. Enjoy a tram ride through the property with time to browse the gift shop before departing. Your amazing trip comes to an end with a 2-hour lunch cruise aboard the magnificent Spirit of Norfolk. Enjoy a delightful lunch as informative narration is given during the cruise through the Hampton Roads Harbor with fascinating sights along the waterfront including mighty aircraft carriers and Navy vessels at Norfolk Naval Base, views of Nauticus, the Battleship Wisconsin and Old Fort Norfolk. Upon return to the dock, you board your Wolf's motorcoach and depart for home with a fast-food meal stop at your expense along the way.
