Day 1

Our travels take us to Williamsport, PA whose rich and fascinating history dates back to 1795 and its rise is credited to the millionaires of the lumber industry that arose. Ironically enough, our first stop will be at Kohl's Stony Hill Tree Farm that was rejuvenated from a rundown 39-acre farm that just happened to have nearly 2,000 evergreen trees planted in one field. Take a peek at this Christmas tree farm in action, as well as the owner's tree stand collection featuring over 1000 items. If time permits, browse the Christmas shop with its ornaments, wreaths and swags. Next, it's off to the Purity Candy Company in Allenwood, PA. In 1907 when President Roosevelt was promoting the "Square Deal" and Henry Ford was getting the first Model-T into production, Ford G. Birchard was starting the Purity Candy Company. Birchard used all natural ingredients, simple machines and carefully tested recipes and coupled that with the belief that making small batches by hand contributed to Purity's outstanding reputation for quality. That forward thinking has stood the test of time and that legacy continues even today. A glass wall separates the factory from the store. Take a peek as the Purity workers are hard at work getting candy ready for the holidays. Next, our costumed step-on guide will join us and lead us the rest of the way offering local history, legend and Victorian holiday traditions. Our next stop will be at Williamsport's Annunciation Catholic Church. Located along Williamsport's famed Millionaires Row, named so for the magnificent homes built by the early lumber barons, a wonderful Romanesque structure built in 1886 featuring magnificent, ornate details inside including Italian marble. (Please note that this site is a working house of worship and could possibly become unavailable last minute due to a funeral, etc. and we may have to visit an alternative site). Now that we have worked up an appetite, it is time to visit the Pennsylvania School of Technology for lunch at Le Jeune Chef. Learn about the school's culinary program as you enjoy a salad, entrée, and dessert prepared by the school's own budding chefs. Note: If you have not already made your entrée selection, please do so by contacting a Wolf's Tour representative and making an entrée selection of either Chicken Marsala (seared chicken with mushroom Marsala sauce served with creamy parmesan risotto) or Salmon Genovese (salmon filet with pesto, tomato and crumbs served with baked golden creamy parmesan risotto). During dessert be entertained with a reading of the holiday short story "A Cup of Christmas Tea". Time to walk off some of that wonderfully prepared meal with a tour of the Rowley House which was once home to one of the wealthiest men in Pennsylvania, E. A. Rowley. A masterpiece of Victorian architecture and located along Millionaires Row, the site home features beautiful woodwork, stained glass windows, English Minton tiles and historic furnishings. It is now time to bid a fond farewell to our costumed guide who has delighted us with heartwarming stories of holidays past in Williamsport. We will depart for home with a meal stop en route.
