Day 1

After a short stop en route, we will arrive at the Flight 93 National Memorial including both the Memorial Plaza with the Wall of Names of the Heroes of Flight 93 and the Visitor Center, dedicated on September 10, 2015. The new visitor center was designed to give visitors a dramatic entrance with a long, black stone walkway marking the flight path of Flight 93. When the walkway ends, you will find yourself at a new overlook that gives an elevated view of the crash site where Flight 93 slammed into the earth at 560 miles per hour. Inside the center, there are 5 walls that tell the story of 9/11, starting with the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and finally the story of Flight 93. There are photographs, videos, and audio recordings of passengers last phone calls to loved ones. It is truly a touching and unforgettable experience. After we pay our respects to our lost heroes, we will have lunch at the Coal Miner's Cafe, before we visit the Quecreek Mine Rescue site, where on July 28, 2002 nine miners were miraculously rescued from 240 feet beneath the earth in a farmer's field just outside of Somerset. Hear the events from the time the accident occurred until the last miner was brought up. The rescue site has been developed into a beautiful garden and we will see the actual rescue capsule, the broken drill bit and the bit that broke through to the men. After our tour, we will depart for home with dinner stop at your expense en route.
