What a glorious time of year to experience the rugged Maine coastline with its picturesque, wind-swept shores and waterfront towns that offer a blend of history, culture and maritime flavor. Experience one of the New England coastline's most popular festivals, the Annual Maine Lobster Festival in the "Lobster Capital of Maine," Rockland.

Following meal and rest stops en route to the coast of New England, we will arrive in Portsmouth, NH, at the Hampton Inn Portsmouth (844-575-6842) for a one-night stay. The hotel offers an indoor pool, fitness center, business center, and complimentary Wi-Fi. In-room amenities include a coffee maker, hair dryer, mini-refrigerator, and microwave. A lobster dinner will be included this evening at a local restaurant with an alternative choice for those with dietary concerns. After dinner, we return to the hotel to relax and unwind.



A full breakfast will be included at the hotel before we check-out and depart with our local guide for a narrated tour of the Portsmouth Harbor Trail's highlights. The tour provides an intimate look at Portsmouth's early and ongoing relationship with the river. Become educated and entertained with the fascinating stories of early settlers, patriots, ship captains and industrialists. We will also make a stop along the way at St. John's Church to see the exceptional Trompe l'oeil ceiling. At Prescott Park we will wander through the gardens and view the 200-year old Portsmouth Shipyard across the river where today U.S. submarines are served. Afterwards, we will travel north to the village of Freeport, home of sporting goods king L.L. Bean. We will have free time for shopping and lunch on our own in Freeport. Next, sit back and relax as we drive along the coast to the Bar Harbor area. Upon arrival in Ellsworth, Maine, we will check in to the Ramada Inn Ellsworth (207-667-9341) for a two-night stay. The hotel features an indoor heated pool, fitness center, gift shop, convenience center and business center with complimentary internet access. Guest rooms include a coffee maker, hair dryer, iron/ironing board and cable/satellite television. Dinner this evening will be included at a nearby restaurant with the remainder of the evening available to enjoy the hotel amenities.

Following a deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel, we will spend the day exploring Mt. Desert Island. We meet our local guide for a narrated tour of Acadia National Park. See breathtaking beauty that has attracted the elite to this area for years. The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain are spectacular. You'll also see the carriage roads built by the Rockefellers, stop at Thunder Hole and the summer cottages built by the rich and famous summer visitors. Next, enjoy a boxed lunch while we take a scenic Bar Harbor Nature cruise. Cruise on Frenchman's Bay, where we will search for eagles, porpoises, seals and other marine mammals and birds aboard this narrated sightseeing cruise. Pass by Egg Rock lighthouse and see the coastline views of Acadia National Park. This afternoon, enjoy free time to explore the many shops in Bar Harbor village. Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat and bring your appetite for a traditional Maine lobster bake in a casual setting overlooking Hulls Cove. Alternative meal choices will be offered for the landlubbers.

After a deluxe continental breakfast included at the hotel, we will check-out and make our way south along the coast to Rockland, the "Lobster Capital of Maine", to attend the 73rd Annual Maine Lobster Festival along the harbor front. Don't miss out on the morning parade with participants from local groups and businesses to nationally-recognized participants such as L.L. Bean Boot mobile and the Budweiser's Clydesdales. Festivities include the world's largest lobster cooker (what else would you use to cook 20,000 pounds of fresh Maine lobster?) great live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, U.S. Coast Guard Station tours, and usually a visit from a United States Navy Ship. Lunch will be on our own while at the festival. We will depart mid-afternoon and make our way south to Portsmouth, NH. On our way south, we will enjoy some free time to explore the local galleries and boutiques and also have dinner included at a local restaurant in Boothbay Harbor. When we arrive in Portsmouth, NH, we will check in, once again, at the Hampton Inn Portsmouth (844-575-6842) for a one-night stay.
