What a glorious time of year to experience the rugged Maine coastline with its picturesque, wind-swept shores and waterfront towns that offer a blend of history, culture and maritime flavor. Experience one of the New England coastline's most popular festivals, the Annual Maine Lobster Festival in the “Lobster capital of Maine,” Rockland.

Day 1

Following meal and rest stops en route the coast of New England, we will arrive in Portsmouth, NH, at the Hampton Inn Portsmouth (844-575-6842) for a one-night stay. The hotel offers an indoor pool, fitness center, business center, and complimentary Wi-Fi. In-room amenities include a coffee maker, hair dryer, mini-refrigerator, and microwave. A lobster dinner will be included this evening at a local restaurant with an alternative choice for those with dietary concerns. After dinner, we return to the hotel to relax and unwind.

Day 2

A full breakfast will be included at the hotel before we check out and depart with our local guide for a narrated tour of the Portsmouth Harbor Trail’s highlights. The tour provides an intimate look at Portsmouth’s early and ongoing relationship with the river. Become educated and entertained with the fascinating stories of early settlers, patriots, ship captains and industrialists. Afterwards, we will travel north to the village of Freeport, home of sporting goods king L.L. Bean. We will have free time for shopping and lunch on your own in Freeport. Following our time in Freeport, we will board a “safari” tram for a narrated tour through the Desert of Maine to witness an unforgettable phenomenon that formed in the 1700’s and has yet to be explained by scientists and geologists. Next, sit back and relax as we drive along the coast to the Bar Harbor area. Upon arrival in Ellsworth, Maine, we will check into the Ramada Inn Ellsworth (207-667-9341) for a two-night stay. The hotel features an indoor heated pool, fitness center, gift shop and convenience center and business center with complimentary internet access. Guest rooms include a coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board and cable/satellite television. Dinner this evening will be included at a nearby restaurant with the remainder of the evening available to enjoy the hotel amenities.

Day 3

Following a deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel, you will spend the day exploring Mt. Desert Island. Our first stop will be at the Bar Harbor Oceanarium, where we will be educated about lobster fishing at the Maine Lobster Museum and see the baby lobsters at the Maine Lobster Hatchery. Next, we will take a scenic Bar Harbor Nature Cruise on Frenchman’s Bay, where you will search for eagles, porpoises, seals and other marine mammals and birds during this narrated sightseeing excursion. Pass by Egg Rock Lighthouse and see the coastline views of Acadia National Park. Following lunch on your own in Bar Harbor, we will meet our local guide for a narrated tour of Acadia National Park. See breathtaking beauty that has attracted the elite to this area for years. The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain are spectacular. See the carriage roads built by the Rockefellers and the summer cottages built by the rich and famous summer visitors. Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat and bring your appetite for a traditional Maine lobster bake in a casual setting overlooking Hulls Cove. Alternative meal choices will be offered for the landlubbers.

Day 4

After a deluxe continental breakfast included at the hotel, we will check out and make our way south along the coast to Rockland, the lobster capital of Maine, to attend the 70th Annual Maine Lobster Festival along the harbor front. Festivities include the world’s largest lobster cooker (what else would you use to cook 20,000 pounds of fresh Maine lobster?) great live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, U.S. Coast Guard Station tours, and usually a visit from a United States Navy Ship. Lunch will be on your own while at the festival. We will depart mid-afternoon and make our way south to Portsmouth, NH, where we will check in, once again, at the Hampton Inn Portsmouth (844-575-6842) for a one-night stay. Dinner is included at the hotel before we retire for the evening.

After a deluxe continental breakfast included at the hotel, we will check out and make our way home with meal and rest stops en route.
