Enjoy a delightful springtime getaway to the Finger Lakes region in New York. Our first stop will be at Treleaven King Ferry Winery, a small, 27-acre vineyard located near Cayuga Lake in New York. King Ferry grows a variety of grapes including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc to name a few and is dedicated to sustainability of the land on which they are grown to be used by future generations. The care and ingenuity that is put forth by the owners and staff is also used to produce their fabulous wines. We will learn about their wine making process and enjoy a tasting of a few select wines. (Please Note: You must be at least 21 years of age or older and present valid state-issued photo identification to participate in the tasting.) At the conclusion of our visit, we will depart for MacKenzie-Childs, a world-renowned producer of artisan majolica ceramic designs in Aurora, NY. Upon arrival, we will be greeted and brought into the building for a virtual video of the studio presented in a theatre, which is also part of the gift shop. The video takes you behind the scenes from design through production showing artisans at work as they handcraft and paint the ceramics. We will then be led on a tour of the Farm House which is the company's showcase property. The building is elaborately decorated with MacKenzie-Childs' colorful designs. After a bit of time to browse the gift shop we will depart and check in to the Holiday Inn Auburn-Finger Lakes Region (315-253-4531) for a two-night stay. The hotel amenities include an indoor heated pool, a fitness center, 24-hour business center and guest coin operated laundry. Dinner this evening will be included at Springside Inn with the following entrée choices: Baked Virginia Ham with Peach Glaze, Slow Roasted Pot Roast, or Baked Haddock with Lemon Butter. (Please Note: If you have not already made your entree selection for dinner, please contact our office to indicate your entrée choice at least one month prior to the trip's departure). Afterwards, we will return to the hotel to turn in for the night.D
Wake to breakfast included at the hotel before we depart for Smokey Hollow Maple Syrup in Jordan, NY to learn how modern-day maple sugaring is done in the small, but very productive sugar shack. What began with a wash tub and an open fire in 1975, has grown to a thriving business continuing to expand their products even beyond maple syrup. Smokey Hollow will sugar us up with a few samples, have a brief time to browse the gift shop and then they will send us on our way to our next destination which is the Willard Memorial Chapel in Auburn. The Willard Chapel is an extremely rare example of the work of Louis C. Tiffany and Tiffany Glass and Decoration Company of New York, as it is the only complete and unaltered Tiffany chapel known to exist. Built in 1892-1894, the chapel's Tiffany interior includes 14 opalescent windows, a rose window, a large figure window, 9 Mooresque styled chandeliers, a ceiling with gold leaf stencils and mosaic tiles, and more. We will be treated to a 20-minute music selection on the historic Steere and Turner Tracker Organ. Next, we will have lunch on our own in Auburn, then head to Anyela's Vineyards for a wine tasting. Anyela's story began three generations ago in Eastern Europe and continues today on the hillside high above Skaneateles Lake. Learn about the interesting way they protect their vines from the harsh winter and later harvested the fruit to produce their wines. We will have a tasting with time to browse their gift shop to purchase and take home and enjoy. Following our tour, we will travel to the quaint town of Skaneateles for a short time to browse the shops before we set sail on a 2 1/2-hour dinner cruise. Relax and enjoy a mouthwatering dinner with sweeping views of the scenic shoreline. Once back on shore, we will board the motorcoach and return to our hotel for the night.B, D
Once again breakfast will be included at the hotel before we check out and depart for Waterloo, NY to visit the Muranda Cheese Company. Muranda Holsteins was founded in 1991 and the owner's main focus at that time was producing the highest quality milk out of high caliber cows, actually breeding a cow that broke the world record for milk production. Muranda Cheese was born in 2007, and today the farm helps produce over 17 types of cheeses that have been recognized for their superior artisanal quality. Learn about their award-winning Holsteins and enjoy a tasting of their cheeses. Afterwards, how about a little bit of wine with that cheese? We will travel to Knapp Winery & Vineyard Restaurant in Romulus. Knapp had planted some of the first vinifera grapes along the shores of Cayuga Lake and was the first winery to vinify the grape variety Cabernet Franc. The Knapp estate encompasses 65 areas of land of which 45 are currently cultivated for growing estate Reisling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Catawba and more. Recognizing the importance of wine with food, Knapp opened the Vineyard Restaurant where we will enjoy lunch included with a wine tasting after the meal. (Note: Please choose one from the following lunch entree choices: Smoked Garlic Pulled Pork Sandwich, Vineyard Chicken Salad Wrap, or FLX Cobb Salad. If you have not yet made a choice, please contact our office at least one month prior to the trip's departure to indicate your selection). Our next stop will be at the incomparable Taughannock Falls Overlook in Ulysses. Here, we can enjoy views of the falls which has a drop of 215 feet and makes it one of the highest east of the Rocky Mountains. The falls are formed by a rock bed creek entering Cayuga Lake and are surrounded by a glen with walls climbing to 400 feet. Our final stop will be at the breathtaking Six Mile Creek Vineyard located in Ithaca. Six Mile Creek Vineyard features one of the most attractive tasting rooms in the Finger Lakes coupled with lovely gardens framed by a fountain pond and breathtaking views of the Danby Hills. Their historic Dutch Colonial Barn has been transformed into their tasting room. Since opening in 1987, they have become well known for their wines, and here you will have a chance to sample a few of their select wines. Following time to browse their wine selections and maybe even purchase some to take home as a memory of your Finger Lakes excursion, we will have a meal stop on own during the trip home.B, L
