Day 1

Following meal and rest stops en route, we arrive at Maine's southernmost lighthouse in Cape Neddick, the Nubble Light. One of the most photographed lighthouses, this iconic structure features a charming Victorian keeper's house with gingerbread trim and a lantern with miniature cast iron lighthouses on its railing. Interestingly enough, photos of the Nubble Light were chosen by NASA officials for the Voyager Spacecraft that were intended to identify the Earth if the craft fell into extraterrestrial hands. Next, we will arrive in Ogunquit, ME - which means "beautiful place by the sea". Upon arrival at the Meadowmere Resort (207-646-9661), you will be greeted with a wine and cheese welcome reception. Meadowmere offers contemporary elegance blended with old-fashioned Maine hospitality. The room amenities include complimentary wireless internet, refrigerator, hair dryer, and cable television. The hotel offers an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and movie theatre. The hotel does not have an elevator. Dinner this evening will be included at an area restaurant. The remainder of the evening is yours to relax and enjoy the hotel amenities or take a short walk to Ogunquit Beach for a leisurely stroll and capture a picturesque sunset.

Day 2

You will have time to enjoy a deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel before you check out and meet your local guide for a narrated tour of Portland, Maine's largest "city-by-the-sea". Portland has a unique waterfront district that is full of culture and history. Learn about Portland's famous citizens and its maritime history as you pass by views of old forts, the working waterfront, and the islands dotting Casco Bay. Drive by the boyhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the Victoria Mansion and sea captains' mansions. Take a moment to photograph Maine's classic Portland Head Lighthouse before you stop at the L.L. Bean flagship store and a myriad of outlet shops and restaurants in Freeport. Lunch will be on your own with some free time for shopping. Next, we'll travel north to Bangor, where you'll meet your local guide for a tour of Bangor, including several sites from Stephen King's novels and films and a photo stop at the giant Paul Bunyan statue. Next, sit back and relax as we take a scenic drive to Bar Harbor, known for its quiet little protected harbors filled with working lobster boats. Ospreys and bald eagles nest high in the spruces along the rugged shores, deer browse the open fields, moose forage the wetlands and harbor seals make their annual pilgrimage to quiet coves. Upon arrival in Bar Harbor, you will check into the Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina (207-288-5033) for the next two nights. Situated directly on Frenchman Bay near the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, the Harborside is a relaxed seaside retreat that embodies the spirit of coastal Maine and offers elegantly-appointed accommodations featuring coffee makers, hair dryers, iron and ironing board. Hotel amenities include an outdoor pool, use of the fitness center at the Bar Harbor Club, as well as an on-site restaurant and lounge, each offering a unique dining experience. After time to freshen up, put on your souvenir Maine lobster hat for a traditional Maine Lobster bake dinner (alternative menu selection available). The remainder of the evening will be yours to relax and enjoy the Harborside's amenities.

Day 3

Following a full breakfast included at the Harborside Hotel, you will meet your local guide for a driving tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. At Acadia, the first national park founded east of the Mississippi, you will see 9 mountains over 1000 feet high, stone bridges, lakes, ponds, trails and carriage roads. You will travel the entire Park Loop road with stops at Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive and Sieur De Mont Springs Wild Gardens of Acadia. In addition, learn about the rich and famous visitors who built summer cottages in Bar Harbor. Lunch will be on your own today with time for browsing the boutiques and restaurants of Bar Harbor. Next, you will take a 2-hour nature sightseeing cruise on Frenchman's Bay. During your cruise you will pass by Egg Rock Lighthouse, which was transformed from its original rare twelve-foot square building with a brick tower rising from the center and stairway that follows the contours of the square structure. A second level was added later to accommodate one family and create a better heating situation during the harsh winter months. Enjoy breathtaking scenery of coastal Maine and Acadia National Park. After returning to the dock, you will return to the hotel. Dinner this evening will be included in the Bar Harbor Club dining room at the hotel. After dinner, you may wish to stroll through the property and soak in the beautiful scenery or take a short walk to the downtown and experience the picturesque waterfront.

Day 4

A full breakfast is included at the hotel this morning before you depart for the Bar Harbor Oceanarium. Enjoy an entertaining and educational presentation on lobstering. In addition, you will tour the Maine Lobster Hatchery where baby lobsters are raised. You'll stop in Portland's historic waterfront district for lunch and shopping on your own. Then travel to Ogunquit to enjoy some free time to browse the downtown shops or take a stroll on The Marginal Way, a 1ΒΌ-mile pathway meandering along the granite cliffs with easy bends and gentle inclines. Early evening, you will return to the Meadowmere Resort to check back in for the evening. Once again, the staff welcomes us with a wine and cheese reception upon arrival. Don your souvenir Maine lobster hat for a farewell lobster bake dinner included with sing-along entertainment. You will feast on sweet Maine lobster or barbeque chicken for the landlubbers, with all of the fixins. The remainder of the evening is yours to rest up for our next day's travels.
